APRIL 2005 - Troy Janisch, founder of Icon Interactive™ will participate with other distinguished UW-Madison alumni in a panel discussion on 'Branded Content and Product Placement.'
Janisch, a 1994 graduate of the Journalism Master's Degree program at UW-Madison will participate in the panel discussion with other distinguished UW-Madison Alumni such as Mike Murray, an account supervisor from Fallon Worldwide; Ali Weisberg Zelenko, director of communications for Time Inc.; and Michelle Nelson, assistant professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at UW-Madison.
"Product placement that goes well beyond traditional advertising is becoming common on the Internet," Janisch said. For example, he said the American Idol web site contains 'behind the scene' content promoting Coca-Cola. And, when you visit the web site for The Apprentice, you're likely to notice brands like Yahoo sprinkled generously throughout the site.
The Internet has also been integrated strategically into the branding strategies of companies such as Burger King (The Subservient Chicken) and Career Builder (Yeknom Inc) that want to provide edgy and bold branding elements without offending offline TV viewers.
The panel discussion will take place on the UW-Madison campus from 11am to 12:15 atthe Pyle Center.
